How Moodie picks movies for your mood

What mood matches, ratings and trailer checks can tell you—and where your own taste still matters.
Start with a real match
Moodie combines plot and keyword signals, genres and a small set of explicit title selections. Genre helps with comedy, romance and horror, but animation alone is not evidence that a movie is wholesome. The cozy and wholesome collections also apply conservative exclusions for disturbing themes.
These rules are useful starting points, not a perfect understanding of a film. A synopsis may leave out an important tonal shift. When a recommendation misses, try another match or explore the collection directly.
Use ratings without letting tiny samples win
TMDB ratings are labelled as TMDB ratings. When vote counts are available, ranking pulls small samples toward a neutral baseline. That stops a barely rated film from leading the list solely because its first few viewers gave it perfect scores.
The picker includes some exploration among films that meet the mood rules. This leaves room for discoveries instead of returning the same few famous titles every time. Movies already shown in the browser session are excluded from subsequent picks.
Trailers are part of the decision
The public catalog includes films whose YouTube trailer passed an availability check during catalog preparation. Where TMDB supplies multiple trailers, another available trailer can replace an unavailable first choice.
A successful check cannot guarantee playback in every country forever. YouTube can change availability or restrict a player by region. Use the trailer’s YouTube link or the skip control if playback does not work for you.
Your choices stay lightweight
Saved movies live in this browser. Their mood tags provide a small preference signal for later picks, while your selected mood remains the main requirement. Browser saves do not sync automatically to another device.
Streaming subscriptions, rental and purchase availability depend on your country. Moodie links to the movie’s TMDB watch page when the catalog has a confirmed TMDB identity, so you can choose your country and check current listings.
