Privacy Policy
How we use account information, recommendation activity and website data.
How we handle your data
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal data when you visit whatsyourmoodie.com.
We take privacy seriously and process data in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and German law (BDSG).
Data collected automatically
When you visit the website, technical information can be collected automatically, including browser type, operating system, referrer URL, time of access, and similar server data.
This helps us keep the site secure, stable, and usable. It is not used to personally identify visitors.
Movie preferences and personalization
A free account stores your sign-in identity and your whatsyourmoodie favorites, likes, dislikes, watched films, recommendation history and settings. whatsyourmoodie uses these choices to rank films for your selected mood. A watched film is excluded from future picks without assuming that you liked it. Choosing “Try another” provides a weak, temporary signal about that film for the selected mood. Repeated passes broaden the range of recommendations. A broken trailer is not treated as a dislike.
Learning from the movie pages and trailers you open on whatsyourmoodie is optional and off by default. You can enable it under Privacy in Account. We cannot access your general browser history or activity on other websites. Turning this option off removes those browsing signals from your profile.
Account and preference data is stored using Upstash Redis; the database's primary region is Frankfurt. Vercel hosts the website. Existing records held in the former Neon account database are retained separately during migration. Signing in through Google or email also involves the chosen sign-in provider.
You can export your account data, pause personalization or reset recommendation history in Account. Feedback can be undone on a film’s page. A reset keeps favorites and watched films. Explicit likes, dislikes, favorites and watched films remain until you change them. Browsing signals stop affecting ranking after 90 days and are removed when your profile next updates.
Daily picks and browser saves
Guests receive five recommendations per UTC day. An essential, signed browser cookie identifies the guest allowance; its lifetime is 30 days. The short-lived server record for guest picks expires after two days without an update. This is a per-browser allowance and does not identify a person across browsers.
Guest saves remain in the browser's local storage. They are only copied into an account when you choose to import them. Favorites held in the former account database may not appear until their migration is complete; they are not deleted by this change.
